Description
TOPRING’s water separators will, when properly installed and maintained, remove oil and water liquids or mist, dirt and other particulates from compressed air. To obtain best results, read and follow the instructions in this manual for water separator installation, operation and maintenance.
Installation
- Inspect the water separator immediately upon receipt of the water separator for any damage that may have occurred during shipment.
- Do not install or attempt to repair water separator if there is damage.
- Purge all pipework before installing the water separator to thoroughly clean out any dirt or impurities within.
- Ensure that weight of all pipes and filters is properly supported.
- Connections and fittings must be rated for the maximum operating temperature and pressure.Install the water separator in a vertical upright position, observing the correct direction of air flow as indicated by the flow indicator arrow.
- Allow sufficient clearance below the water separator and working area for removal of the water separator body for maintenance.
Note
The vortex generator, the vortex cone and the baffle/retainer need only to be tightened moderately by hand. Over tightening may lead to failure or damage, where TOPRING bears no responsibility for careless installation.
Recommendations
- Water separators should be located downstream of aftercoolers and air receivers, or any other location in the system where the temperature does not exceed the recommended maximum and as close to the point of application as possible.
- A water separator does not lower the dew point of compressed air. Temperature changes downstream of the water separator may result in condensation of water and oil vapours. Installing close to the application minimizes the risk of pipe scale downstream of the water separators contaminating filtered air.
- Care for the water separator by not installing it downstream of quick opening valves and by protecting it from any possible reverse flow or other shock conditions.
- To facilitate maintenance without shutting the system down, a three-valve bypass system enabling the water separator to be isolated, can be used. However, contamination will inevitably leak through valves bypassing the water separator.
- For applications that cannot tolerate unfiltered air, have a second water separator installed in the bypass loop.
Maintenance
Parts and Accessories
Inspect all water separator parts and accessories during each maintenance and replace damaged or worn parts when necessary. Use only original TOPRING spare parts to ensure proper water separator performance and to avoid compromising your water separator warranty.
Automatic Drain
Inspect the automatic condensate drain every two to three weeks for excessive oil and water by using the manual drain function to discharge the condensate until the compressed air blows through for a few seconds. If a significant amount of condensate is discharged, the condensate drain should be cleaned or replaced as required.
Warnings
- Failure to comply with the following safety guidelines may result in equipment failure, serious injury or death.
- All warnings, cautions, prohibitions and notes in this manual must be read beforehand and observed during installation, operation and maintenance.
- The user must operate with care, observing all instructions concerning health and safety, when handling, operating or maintaining the water separator.
- Compressed air is dangerous. Before performing any installation or maintenance on any component of a compressed air system, including water separators, ensure that the system has been discharged or vented to atmospheric pressure.
- Ensure all safety regulations are observed and appropriate protection worn.
- Inspect the water separator thoroughly upon receipt and before installation. If any component or part of the water separator is damaged, do not install or repair the water separator. Contact your dealer.
- Do not operate the water separator at pressure or temperatures exceeding the maximum pressure and temperature of the water separator.
- Avoid damaging the water separator body when removing or tightening the water separator body. Do not use a pipe wrench. If necessary, use a locking strap clamp/wrench. The water separator body may be heavy. Caution should be taken when removing it.
The use of replacement parts or elements other than those by TOPRING may cause failure of the water separator, property damage, serious injury or even death. Hence, TOPRING bears no responsibility for the consequences of use of water separators containing non-approved parts.
Protect the environment by recycling where possible and using only approved disposal.
TOPRING cannot anticipate every possible circumstance that might lead to a potential hazard. Hence, the warnings in this manual are not all-inclusive.
